State Senators Look to Cut Funding from Deerfield Beach Alzheimer’s Center

The City of Deerfield Beach needs the help of every citizen in Broward County! The Senate has proposed a substantial funding cut for Northeast Focal Point, the Alzheimer’s Day Care Center, which serves the northern portion of the county. Senators are aiming to slash more than $195k as early as July 2017. This cut will be devastating to those families who rely on the center to care for their loved-ones, stricken with Alzheimer’s Disease, for a few hours a day. We are asking the community to call or e-mail your State Senator. Please be sure to thank them for their support of senior services and Alzheimer’s Day Care programs and request that they save/restore the critical funding for day care services.

Your voter registration card contains your District number, which will determine who your State Senator is. The list of Senators is below:

State Senator District # 36-Oscar Braynon II - 305-654-7150

Important information:

Funding Cut of $195k from the $434k will result in a reduction of critical services for individuals with dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss and their caregivers.

In 2016, sixty-five individuals stricken with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers were provided with 42,434 hours of day care, 434 case management services and 115 hours of caregiver training and support.

Community-based day care programs, respite/relief services, and caregiver training and support programs are the most cost-effective way to support families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease and delays premature institutionalization.

Alzheimer’s services allows Caregivers “peace of mind” as they maintain active employment, which also permits them the opportunity to keep earning a living and contributing to society.

The N.E. Focal Point has made a positive impact on the lives of many Broward county families struggling with Alzheimer’s disease for more than 30 years. Join the fight to keep this funding, which serves the most vulnerable in our community.

Thank you very much for your assistance and support!
